“Life - creation, creation - life”:
creation on the base of Belgorod State Special Library for Blind named Eroshenko a sound recording studio for blind kids and partially sighted kids. The purpose is the development of their creative possibilities.
Time of realization: from January 2007 till December 2008
The problem is:
Entering the life, adaptation in it, self-determination, determination in self-opportunities and limits and also self-role and maintenance in this world – these are the problems involving kids into life and creation activity. Kids with limited opportunities of life are special kids; they also have limited number of people having connection with them. Such kids have deficiency of social kindness and deficiency of social adaptation; they are aliens among kids which are of the same age. But more of all they need to get their right for physical, intellectual, creative and social activity as much as “normal” kids.
Nowadays in Belgorod State Special Library for Blind we try to include such special kids (there are 216 of them) into society of kids of the same age. There are clubs by interests, children’s puppet theater “Harlequin”, “parents’ academy”, where employees of Library in cooperation with parents and kids study the psychology of dialogue, getting creative cooperation of adults with healthy kids and physically impaired kids.
The project “Life – creation, creation - life” helps to develop a creative reserve of
physically impaired kids, to increase their self-estimation, to form their inner freedom. Creation of sound recording studio will help kids to open the world of different literature using audio data. Also it will help them to open opportunities in collective creation and cooperating activity to develop their inner and social creative motivation.
Content of the Project
The project of creation kids’ sound recording studio consists of the following programs:
- “Theatre at the microphone” – a creative workshop for kids with limited possibilities. This workshop will help to make their literary and poetical talents famous;
- “A house without solitude”. This is the cycle of “literary therapy” which helps visually impaired people to find the way out of troubles. This “therapy” consists of many real stories of other invalid people;
The ways of realization the program.
The 1st level
Preparing
1. The elucidation of kids’ creative possibilities using special tests and private talk.
2. A creation of data base of talented kids.
3. A creation of kids’ sound recording studio:
- buying and installation the special technical equipment;
- putting the room intended for this studio into special form (fit it out with furniture);
The 2nd level
Basic
1. The forming of active workgroup from librarians, teachers, artists of radio and TV. This group will make lessons for kids.
2. The forming of active group from kids 10-17 years old, including invalid kids. We plan to invite kids from special and ordinary schools of Belgorod City.
3. A methodical support the radio studio:
- creation the fund of fiction and methodical literature by the problems of visually impaired people;
- working out the methodical and screenplay materials by the librarians and teachers to make lessons for kids;
4. Making lessons for kids about oratorical speech and artistic skill by the librarians, teachers, artists of theatre, radio and TV.
5. Kids’ self-work in the studio:
- preparing the materials for the programs;
- recording the programs;
6. Advertisement and publicity:
- output the advertisement productions;
- putting the information of radio studio activity into web-site of the Library;
- radio and TV reports about studio’s activity;
The 3rd level
Final
1. Publicity of completed programs in public schools, departments of All-Russian Association of the Blind and other public organizations of the area.
2. Distribution theatre plays and radio programs on the special CDs and audiocassettes among the library clients in the city and area.
Expected results
1. Cooperation between healthy kids and visually handicapped kids of the same age.
2. The forming of tolerant relationships between kids with different possibilities.
3. This project will help kids in their creative self-realization during the collective activity.
4. We hope the project has got public reputation will attract the attention of power organizations and sponsors. We also hope the realization of this program will be the start of creation and realization of another projects by the social rehabilitation of invalid people.
This project has continuous basis. The successful functioning of kids’ sound recording studio will help to attract the attention of public opinion to the problems of invalid kids. In future the recording and copying of radio programs made by the invalid kids will transform into special radio program broadcast.
All repots about realization of the project will be given to Ulverscroft Foundation within three months after it completes.

The Belgorod State Special Library for the Blind named by Eroshenko took part in the competition with project “Invalid kids and Internet” at the FORCE Foundation in 2004. We’ve won the grant (10 600 USD). This grant covered the payment for computer server, web-camera and web access.
Therefore about 170 clients of computer room functioning at our library can use World Web resources.
